A Letter From Brenda
Hello Everyone,
This is Brenda Dreyer, founder of and instructor at Foothills Canine Academy. I have had the greatest pleasure opening an indoor dog training facility here in Phoenix. I have met some wonderful people and their wonderful dogs in these past 4 years! Phoenix was supposed to be me and my husband’s final destination, however, an opportunity has arisen in our “heartland”, Boise. We have made the bittersweet decision to move back to Boise.
Over the last four years, I have developed a wonderful relationship with the owner and instructors at K9 Defense. K9 Defense has strengthened my knowledge and understanding of everything canine. I cannot express to them enough how grateful I am for every learning opportunity they given to me. A few years ago, I reached out to them to lead a class I felt was extremely important to every dog owner, our “Engagement” class. They took this opportunity and ran with it. This class has proven over and over again to be a HUGE success.
Also, for those who have not yet met Aly Callaway, you will absolutely love her!!! Aly has been mentoring with me and K9 Defense for the past 3 years and has proven herself to be an extraordinary asset to both Foothills Canine Academy and K9 Defense. Aly is a “natural” when it comes to training and understanding the canine partner. She is continuously taking every opportunity to learn as much as she can. She has taught several classes at Foothills and is a valuable asset to the Engagement classes. I have also recommended several people in need of private lessons and each of them has had nothing but great things to say about her.
I will miss each and every one of you and of course, this includes your furry partner! Please always remember: “Consistency & Persistency will either make or break your training!” AND ALWAYS HAVE FUN WITH YOUR PUPPERS!!!!

K9 Defense
With over 25 years of experience working with dogs, K9 Defense has seen it all! They specialize in training police dogs and working with reactivity cases. This background has taught them how important it is that humans and their canine partners have a great relationship.
After starting Engagement classes with Brenda they realized how valuable this class can be for everyone with a canine companion. With the encouragement from Brenda it was decided to continue with Engagement classes and continue to support and build the community that Foothills Canine Academy has become!
Aly Callaway
Illinois native moved to sunny Arizona in 2018 with her best friend Karma! Two years later welcomed puppy Arlo to the family and boy was he a handful! Struggling with severe reactivity she found Brenda at Foothills Canine Academy, K9 Defense and never looked back!
Together they helped her realize how amazing a cooperative relationship between human and dog could be! It sparked a passion to help others with their pups as well! She has spent the past three years mentoring closely with both Brenda and K9 Defense, as well as attending dog training conferences. This helps her to expand her knowledge, continuously grow, and stay current with the most up to date training practices. She is an AKC CGC Evaluator, a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and is working towards her certification for professional dog trainers (CPDT-KA).
